Moreton Island Stand-up Paddleboarding

What better way to spend your birthday than stand-up paddleboarding in the Australian sunshine on Moreton Island. This sand island lies just off the coast of Brisbane and is a favourite stop-off spot for the cruise ships that enjoy this part of Australia.

This was the first, and probably only, time that I paddled on a solid plastic SUP board. Some people who have seen this photograph asked me if I was sure it was actually a SUP board: ‘Are you sure you didn’t hire a kayak by mistake?’

Yes, I’m sure - it even had a foot logo on either side to indicate where my feet should be. Of course, you can’t see these in the photo as they were under my feet!
